## Summary

The buying organisation, Natural England, is planning a tender for the construction of a new Woodland Centre within Yarner Wood National Nature Reserve. The project falls under the construction works category and involves building facilities off-grid using sustainable methods. The tender encompasses a traditional build contract based on the RIBA 4 Technical design and is valued at £1.2 million. The tender stage is currently in the planning phase, with a future notice date set for February 12, 2024. The location of the project is Yarner Wood in Bovey Tracey, Newton Abbot, Devon.

This tender opportunity presents a chance for businesses in the construction industry, particularly those experienced in sustainable building practices, to compete for the contract. Companies specialising in construction works, especially for buildings related to education and research, as well as research buildings, are well-suited to bid for this project. With a focus on innovative construction methods and environmental sustainability, the tender offers growth prospects for businesses looking to engage in projects that promote eco-friendly infrastructure development.

## Notice

Construction of a new Woodland Centre within Yarner Wood National Nature Reserve. This will replace an existing woodland centre that needs updating and currently offers very basic facilities.
The new centre will be entirely off-grid, using a combination of solar, log gasification and diesel generator for power. Water will be supplied from rainwater harvesting system and the new building will abstract water from the nearby Yarner stream.
The new centre will be designed to accommodate up to 25-30 visitors, providing basic kitchen facilities and three toilets.
Approximate GIFA is 150sqm.
A unique element of the build will be the use of locally felled Douglas Fir manufactured into glulam. The glulam will provide the structural portal frame and Defra will procure the glulam in readiness for the build.
