## Summary

The London Borough of Hillingdon has finalised the award phase for the "Nursing Beds Block Contract - Short Term Placements" procurement in the health services category. Two providers, Halton Services Ltd and Gold Care Homes, have been awarded contracts for two lots, which cover the provision of nursing care home beds. Lot 1 includes ten short-term nursing care home beds for non-weight-bearing residents with general nursing and dementia needs, while Lot 2 includes five short-term nursing care home beds for weight-bearing residents with similar needs. The contracts are set for an initial period of three years, starting from 5th June 2024 and 5th August 2024, respectively. This procurement falls under the "services" category and was conducted via an open procedure due to the initial tender process failing to attract suitable bids, leading to a direct award in accordance with procurement regulations. The procurement process was actively managed to meet a critical need for short-term nursing placements to facilitate timely hospital discharges within the Borough of Hillingdon.

This contract presents significant opportunities for businesses in the healthcare and nursing care sectors, especially those specialising in short-term and dementia care. The awarded providers will have guaranteed business from the borough for the next three years, ensuring a steady stream of revenue. Given the requirement for specialised care for both weight-bearing and non-weight-bearing residents, businesses with expertise in nursing and dementia care are particularly well-suited to compete in such tenders. Moreover, companies looking to establish or expand their presence in the North West London region may find this and similar contracts beneficial to their growth strategy. The open procurement method initially used indicates the council's willingness to engage with various providers before resorting to direct awards, suggesting future opportunities for new entrants to the market.
