## Summary

The Centre for Process Innovation Limited (CPI) is seeking to establish a framework for Automated Solutions under the open procedure in the automation systems category. This initiative primarily focuses on supporting laboratory automation needs at the National Formulation Center located in the Coxon Building, through upgrades, maintenance, and procurement of new robotic platforms for current and future requirements. The tender, classified under CPV code 48921000 (Automation system), encompasses various procurement activities including the supply, installation, commissioning of equipment, and provision for associated tasks like design, training, and ongoing maintenance. The framework spans several Lots, including the purchase of new custom automation platforms and solutions for existing robotic systems from suppliers like Opentrons, Janus, Chemspeed, Labman, and Analytik Jena, among others. Key dates include the tender closing on 4th March 2024, with award decisions starting from 4th March 2024.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in laboratory automation, robotics, and related technology services. Companies offering innovative automation solutions, maintenance services, and integration capabilities with third-party devices will find this procurement process advantageous for expanding their market footprint in the UK. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with expertise in customising, maintaining, and upgrading robotic platforms will be well-suited to compete for these Lots. Additionally, suppliers able to provide comprehensive aftersales support, training, and rapid lead times will be valued for their responsiveness and technical proficiency. This framework agreement is a vital gateway for businesses aiming to collaborate with CPI in modernising laboratory automation at significant R&D facilities.

## Notice

CPI wish to appoint a range of suppliers to support our ongoing automation needs. Automation and robotics are key enabling technologies within CPI, with this procurement exercise seeking to appoint a series of suppliers to a framework to support our laboratory automation requirements both current and future primarily for our National Formulation Center based at our Coxon Building facility, through the support of our existing robotic platforms with upgrades, maintenance and ongoing consumable supply and with the provision of new robotic platforms. The scope of supply for equipment purchases under this tender will include the supply and installation of equipment, with the option of commissioning the equipment if required. Purchases may include any design work, packing and shipping, training of users, maintenance, upgrades and ongoing running costs. This tender is split into 7 Lots. Lot 1 - Purchase of new custom automation platforms for preparation and characterisation of formulated products

### Lot Information

Purchase of new automation platforms for preparation and characterisation of formulated products

CPI are seeking to add to their current automated formulation and characterisation capability and wish to appoint a series of competent automation suppliers from which to purchase future robotic systems. It is expected that successful suppliers be able to offer solutions across a range of categories including material dispensing, mixing, reformatting, coating and characterisation. The ability to offer integration with third party devices and a willingness to provide integrated solutions encompassing current CPI automation systems is essential.

Options: Options as detailed within the Tender Pack

Purchase of collaborative robotic solutions (Cobots) for R&D environments - Mobile Robotic Platform

CPI requires a platform with both a mechanical arm and autonomous mobility. The specified task involves segregation of sample vials according to predefined criteria, using image analysis. Algorithms for image analysis will be provided by CPI, however the supplier will be expected to support CPI in ensuring that results from the algorithm can be translated into movements using the robotic hardware. Future workflows may require transport of these vials for de-capping and reformatting (e.g. using a liquid handing platform) and potentially, for further analysis. Therefore, ability of the Cobot hardware/software solution to expand and integrate with additional 3rd party devices in the future, and the supplier expertise to support this as part of future work, is essential.

Purchase of collaborative robotic solutions (Cobots) for R&D environments - Fixed Cobot Arm

CPI requires a fixed mechanical arm to scan bottle barcodes for pharmaceutical products and place these into boxes for shipment. Validation of this workflow (as part of good manufacturing practice) is not required as part of this tender. However, it is essential that the workflow can be validated as part of future work.

Framework Purchase of collaborative robotic solutions (Cobots) for R&D environments

This Lot designed to provide CPI with a selection of suppliers from which to purchase future Cobot solutions. The technical specification of all future Cobot systems will be provided to appointed vendors to the framework by way of a Mini Competition as and when a solution is required. Successful appointment does not guarantee award of any robot supply or build but will allow CPI to run a mini competition with appointed suppliers

Purchase of automation solutions for existing Labman robotic platforms

CPI currently have a series of robotic platforms from Labman Automation and wish to appoint a supplier for their ongoing maintenance and servicing, provision of training and hardware/software upgrade solutions as required. Additional requirements such as engineering modifications to the platforms, software modifications and upgrades, training, maintenance, service and repair and purchase of specialist consumables are to be considered in scope of this lot.

Options: Options as detailed within the Tender Pack

Purchase of automation solutions for existing Chemspeed robotic platforms

CPI currently have two existing robotic platforms from Chemspeed Technologies and wish to appoint a supplier for their ongoing maintenance and servicing, provision of training and hardware/software upgrade solutions as required. Additional requirements such as engineering modifications to the platforms, software modifications and upgrades, training, maintenance, service and repair and purchase of specialist consumables are to be considered in scope of this lot.

Options: Options as detailed within the Tender Pack

Purchase of automation solutions for existing Analytik Jena platform

CPI currently have a custom robotic platform from Analytik Jena and wish to appoint a supplier for their ongoing maintenance and servicing, provision of training and hardware/software upgrade solutions as required. Additional requirements such as engineering modifications to the platforms, software modifications and upgrades, training, maintenance, service and repair and purchase of specialist consumables are to be considered in scope of this lot.

Options: Options as detailed within the Tender Pack

Purchase of automation solutions for existing Opentrons platform

CPI currently have a single Opentrons liquid handling platform and wish to appoint a supplier for their ongoing maintenance and servicing, provision of training and hardware/software upgrade solutions as required. Additional requirements such as engineering modifications to the platforms, software modifications and upgrades, training, maintenance, service and repair and purchase of specialist consumables are to be considered in scope of this lot..

Options: Options as detailed within the Tender Pack

Purchase of automation solutions for existing Janus robotic platforms

CPI currently have several Janus liquid handling platforms located at their Sedgefield and Darlington sites and wish to appoint a supplier for their ongoing maintenance and servicing, provision of training and hardware/software upgrade solutions as required. Additional requirements such as engineering modifications to the platforms, software modifications and upgrades, training, maintenance, service and repair and purchase of specialist consumables are to be considered in scope of this lot.
