## Summary

Essex County Council has recently awarded a contract for the maintenance and repair of its container units and pedestrian access steps, which are essential for managing the waste generated by the county's 1.5 million residents. The awarded contracts, stemming from the tender titled "1054 - Container and Access Step Maintenance," are split into two Lots: Lot 1 for Container Maintenance and Lot 2 for Access Step Maintenance, including Adhoc Maintenance Works, covering a total estimated contract value of £843,333 over a 3+2 year period. The awarded contracts to UK Container Maintenance Ltd for Lot 1 and Oxborrow Engineering Limited for Lot 2, were finalised on 31st July 2024, with the services to be provided across various Recycling Centres for Household Waste (RCHW) and Waste Transfer Stations (WTS) located in the UKH region.

This tender presents an excellent opportunity for businesses specialising in repair and maintenance services, particularly those experienced in handling waste management infrastructure. With substantial ongoing maintenance needs and the possibility of extending the contract, there is potential for significant business growth and long-term engagements. SMEs with capabilities in handling heavy-duty waste containers or fabricating access steps, as well as those capable of providing on-demand maintenance services, would find this tender particularly suitable. The open procedure allows for competitive bidding, ensuring that businesses of all sizes can compete effectively for these valuable contracts.

## Notice

The Authority currently owns approximately 450 units of Containers (consisting of 15, 30 and 40 yard specifications), as well as approximately 140 units of pedestrian Access Steps located across its 21 RCHWs. To maintain these items, the Authority is awarding a contract for both the maintenance and repair of the above mentioned Container units and Access Step units, as well as Adhoc Maintenance Works. The requirements of this tender were divided into two (2) Lots and therefore two (2) contracts have been awarded: - Lot 1: Container Maintenance - Lot 2: Access Step Maintenance (including Adhoc Maintenance Works)
