## Summary

SSE plc, an electricity distribution network operator in the United Kingdom, has planned a procurement process titled "SSEN Battery Back Up Provisions" in the goods category. The company aims to purchase batteries to provide back-up power arrangements for certain customer groups, particularly those with electrically powered medical equipment, to ensure continuous power supply during outages. The procurement involves seeking sustainable and cost-effective batteries to be distributed to at least 20,000 customers by 31 March 2028. Interested parties are invited to submit responses by 12:00pm GMT on Thursday 25th to Deborah Johnstone, the Strategic Procurement Officer at SSE plc.

This procurement process presents an opportunity for businesses specializing in battery packs, generators, uninterruptible power supplies, and emergency power supplies to participate. Suppliers capable of providing modern battery packs suitable for home use and meeting the specified requirements for supporting vulnerable customers during power cuts are encouraged to engage. The planned procurement stage involves market engagement through a Request for Information (RFI), enabling businesses to provide information to help develop a procurement strategy before any future tender opportunities arise. The communication indicates a future notice date of 1st November 2024 for additional updates.

## Notice

SSEN is the electricity distribution network operator in two distinct regions in the United Kingdom and is legally obligated to maintain and operate the electricity distribution network to maintain supply to our customers. As part of our license to operate, we have an obligation to provide back-up power arrangements to certain customer groups and one way of doing this is to provide batteries to our customer base to enable them to power key equipment during a power outage. As such, SSEN plans to purchase a number of batteries to give to our customers (free of charge).

### Lot Information

Lot 1

The aim of this Request for Information (RFI) is for information to be provided to help develop a procurement strategy that will identify efficiency and will also assist with pre-qualification and/or invitation to tender process for the supply and delivery of battery equipment/portable power stations suitable for home use. Our requirement is to source sustainable and cost-effective batteries to support vulnerable customers during power cuts. Using modern battery packs, we will introduce proactive support for customers who rely on electrically powered medical equipment. The provision of these battery packs will ensure immediate emergency power during a power cut, thus helping to keep medical equipment operational. Battery provisions may be required to operate the likes of feeding machines, CPAP machines, tele-care alarms, heart monitors, or airflow mattresses. Our intention is for battery packs to be provided to at least 20,000 customers who use electrically powered medical equipment. These must be distributed between now and 31 March 2028. The purpose of this engagement is for the market to provide information only. This process of engagement is not a pre-qualification, tender nor a guarantee of any future tender opportunities. This process also does not guarantee any agreements, contracts, or delivery of the required goods. Additional information: The Request For Information (RFI) documents are available for unrestricted and full direct access, free of charge, at https://sse.app.jaggaer.com/esop/guest/go/opportunity/detail?opportunityId=379 Please submit responses to Deborah Johnstone by email by 12:00pm GMT Thursday 25th RFI Contact Point Deborah Johnstone, Strategic Procurement Officer deborah.johnstone@sse.com
