## Summary

Diamond Light Source Ltd, located on the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Didcot, Oxfordshire, has concluded the procurement process for the Diamond-II Booster Girder Assemblies. The process, under the title “Diamond-II Booster Girder Assemblies”, falls under the industry category of Electrotechnical equipment (CPV code 31730000) and is classified as a procurement of goods. This project is part of the Diamond-II upgrade, involving the design, manufacture, quality control, magnetic measurements, and delivery of 50 girder assemblies for the booster synchrotron. The winning bidder, Danfysik A/S, has been awarded an active contract worth €6,692,600, signed on 15th July 2024. The tender was executed through an open procedure with the submission period ending on 28th May 2024, followed by bid opening and award period on the same day.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in high-precision manufacturing, electrotechnical equipment, and scientific research instrumentation. Companies specialising in magnetic measurements, vacuum technologies, and ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems will find this contract particularly relevant. The detailed scope of work and the technical quality criteria highlight the need for suppliers with substantial experience and capability in producing sophisticated and accurately aligned equipment necessary for advanced scientific applications. By engaging in such high-profile projects, businesses have the potential to strengthen their market positioning and expand their portfolio within the scientific research sector.

## Notice

Located on the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire, Diamond Light Source (DLS) is a leading-edge facility for science, engineering and innovation. Diamond allows researchers from academia and industry to investigate the structure and behaviour of the world around us at the atomic and molecular level. To continue delivering the world-changing science that Diamond enables, the facility is being upgraded to Diamond-II, a co-ordinated programme of development that combines a major machine upgrade with new instruments and complementary improvements to optics, detectors, sample environment and delivery capabilities, and computing, as well as integrated and correlative methods. This will be transformative in speed and spatial resolution and will offer users streamlined access to enhanced instruments for life and physical sciences. The scope of this contract is to carry out detailed design, manufacture, quality control, magnetic measurements and delivery to Diamond of a series of ready-to-install "girder assemblies" for the booster synchrotron upgrade part of the Diamond-II project.

A total of 50 girder assemblies are required of various types containing different combinations of dipole, quadrupole, sextupole and corrector magnets. The girder assemblies will include the UHV vacuum vessel assembly running through the magnet gaps, including Beam Position Monitors (BPM), bellows, flanges and all necessary vacuum pumps and instrumentation, as well as their support pedestals, adjustment system and baseplates. The booster will operate at 5 Hz repetition frequency and hence all magnets must be of a laminated construction. The girder assemblies must be designed and constructed so as to be able to be fitted together to form sections of the Diamond Booster synchrotron. The vacuum assemblies must be baked-out before integration in the magnets without venting and supplied under vacuum. The magnets and vacuum components are to be mounted and accurately aligned on the girders, complete with all service and interlock connections to suitable manifolds and electrical termination boards, by the Supplier, ready for installation. The Supplier will carry out full mechanical, electrical and magnetic testing of the individual magnetic elements, vacuum tests to ensure UHV compatibility, as well as other tests of components and complete assemblies.
