## Summary

The public procurement process for the "North Shields Ferry Landing Relocation Design & Build" is orchestrated by Nexus, a prominent buying organisation based in Newcastle upon Tyne. The contract, notable for its complex construction work within the marine environment, includes the development of a new ferry landing as well as associated works on the existing Western Quay. As of 18th November 2025, the procurement has reached the award stage, with McLaughlin and Harvey appointed as the main contractor. This selective procurement process adhered to a restricted procedure, ensuring a competitive yet targeted approach. The project covers the UKC region, with an emphasis on port-related activities, and has an established contract with a value of £23,900,000GBP. Initially planned in 2024, the project's critical milestones included a tender period that ended in August 2024, with construction activities envisaged to commence by April 2025.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in marine construction and civil engineering, offering prospects to engage in a high-profile development within the North East of England. Companies with capabilities in executing complex design and build marine projects will find this tender particularly suited to their expertise. The procurement method used underlines the importance of quality in the bid evaluation process, with a strong focus on both quality and price. Such contracts could stimulate business growth by providing substantial work over an extended period, thereby contributing to the strategic expansion of experienced construction firms within the marine sector. The completed project will serve as an important addition to local transport infrastructure, underscoring the contractor's role in enhancing the region’s transport efficacy and accessibility.
