## Summary

Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) has completed a procurement process for steep ground harvesting services covering the North, West, and Central regions. This procurement falls under the services category, with a focus on timber harvesting. The process involved an open procedure method, with the tender initially published as part of a multi-lot contract: Lot 1 for the North Region, Lot 2 for the West Region, and Lot 3 for the Central Region. The procurement was in accordance with the legal basis of the EU Directive 2014/24. The entire process has advanced to the award stage as of 11th July 2025, with contracts signed respectively on 22nd April, 19th May, and 10th July 2025. The involved contracts are threefold, with active statuses and significant values, ensuring a structured and strategic approach to the procurement of forestry services, prominently centred in the UK region (UKM). Key business opportunities presented include winch work, skyline thinning, and other essential forestry and traffic management services over a 5-year contract period, extendable by up to 2 years.

This tender provides substantial opportunities for forestry service businesses, especially those skilled in timber harvesting, traffic management, and various methods of skyline and chainsaw operations. With award criteria focusing significantly on technical quality and price, businesses proficient in efficient timber clearing and dealing with complex terrain stand to benefit. SMEs like Duffy Skylining Ltd, Gillies Timber Ltd, and AMAC Forestry Ltd have already successfully acquired portions of work within specific regions, marking this as a lucrative area for businesses equipped to deliver high-standard, sustainable forestry management. This sets the stage for similar or related businesses to explore sub-contracting potential and engage in the ongoing management and service delivery in these regions. With the overarching objective towards sustainability and net zero, businesses with a commitment to ecological responsibility and community benefits are particularly well-suited to compete and grow through this contracting route.
