## Summary

The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, based in Cumbria, United Kingdom, is planning a procurement process titled "Automated Sort and Segregate (Auto-SAS)" in the services industry category, specifically focusing on decommissioning services. This tender, with a value of £9.5 million, aims to implement an autonomous waste sorting and segregation platform at a Nuclear Reactor Site. The procurement will involve two phases over 4 years, starting with design and development followed by installation and active demonstration. The contract, awarded by NDA, involves hosting an engagement event on 18th June 2024 for interested suppliers.

This tender presents an opportunity for businesses offering industrial robots, feasibility studies, waste analysis services, design services, and research and development consultancy to collaborate with the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority. The project requires innovative solutions for safely sorting nuclear waste, making it ideal for companies with expertise in the specified CPV codes. The planned procurement process signifies a long-term partnership opportunity, aligning with the NDA's goal of efficient waste management and technology deployment within the decommissioning sector.

## Notice

This project is an Innovation Partnership procurement route and therefore requires innovative ideas and solutions. The proposed contract duration will be over 4 years and will provide a deployed large-scale active demonstration (Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6) of an autonomous waste sorting and segregation platform on an NRS site. The platform will be able to autonomously sort through nuclear waste and segregate into specific containers. The aim of the platform is to remove humans from harm, reduce the hazards associated with sorting and segregation processes and improve utilisation of the waste hierarchy and diversion routes.

The procurement will start with a 3 year off site design, development, and inactive demonstration and move to a
2 year installation and active demonstration phase. (Phase 2 will start during the 3 year period of Phase 1. However there will be a contract break before phase 2 commences)

These two phases will be awarded to a single supplier for PS0-PS9.5M in total.

Whilst the contract will be awarded by NDA, the contract management and project management will be led by NRS. The contract maybe novated over to NRS at a later date once awarded.
