## Summary

Bassetlaw District Council (BDC), in collaboration with the UK Atomic Energy Agency (UKAEA) and the North Notts Business Improvement District (NNBID), has announced a tender to develop and operate the Fusion Energy Café, envisaged to be the first of its kind globally. This project is focused on providing community, social, and personal services within the services category. The procurement process is currently at the "tender" stage with a submission deadline set for 5th September 2024. The café will be located at the Bridge Skills Hub in Worksop, a prime location in the UK’s East Midlands (UKF1 region). Prospective bidders are encouraged to submit electronic submissions, with the tender to be awarded shortly after the deadline.

This tender presents a substantial opportunity for business growth for various types of organisations, including Voluntary, Community, and Social Enterprises (VCSEs), private café owners, and training providers. Businesses that have expertise in catering and hospitality training, particularly those focusing on supporting individuals with disabilities, NEET learners, or long-term unemployed, are well-suited to compete. The winning bidder will be involved in a high-profile project poised to benefit from significant local and national interest, supported by the multi-billion STEP programme at West Burton. This initiative also offers the potential for partnerships and subcontracting opportunities, making it a versatile and profitable engagement for both single suppliers and collaborative ventures.

## Notice

Bassetlaw District Council (BDC) is working in collaboration with the UK Atomic Energy Agency (UKAEA), and the North Notts Business Improvement District (NNBID) to open the first Fusion Energy Cafe in the world. This is a unique opportunity to get involved in a once in a generation project, highlighting the opportunities of fusion to local communities, including through the multi-billion STEP programme at West Burton, and seeking to maximise the benefits fusion has to offer. BDC, UKAEA and NNBID are looking to collaborate with either a Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) organisation, Private cafe owner and/or training provider to operate the community training cafe. To operate the cafe and provide catering and hospitality training for learners with a disability, who are not in education, employment, or training (NEET), or are long-term unemployed. This will provide the opportunity for volunteering, training, employment, and signposting, as well as joint investment in community development and social inclusion. Independent cafe operators are not precluded from the EOI process if they feel the business model could work alongside the catering and hospitality training provision and the skills outreach focus of the Community Cafe. it is expected the operating model will either be a single supplier providing cafe and training services, a partnership of a cafe operator and a training provider, or a main and sub contractor arrangement with a lead supplier taking responsibility for both sides of the services.
