## Summary

In a recent procurement process, the National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) has completed an award for the development of wireless, long-term environmental monitoring of nuclear stores. This contract, valued at £171,699.36, has been awarded to Sensor Driven Ltd as part of the Gamechangers Innovation Programme. The project falls under the industry category of research and experimental development services and will take place across the UK region. The procurement method utilised was a limited procedure without prior publication of a call for competition under the rationale that the procurement falls outside the scope of application of the directive. The contract was signed on 24th July 2024, marking the completion of this procurement stage.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in sensor development, environmental monitoring, and innovation in the nuclear sector. Companies that specialise in long-term sensor technology, data transmission, and corrosion monitoring systems will find this project particularly relevant. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with innovative approaches to environmental challenges and those able to produce robust, long-lasting monitoring solutions are well-suited to compete in such procurements. The Gamechangers Innovation Programme also encourages continuous advancement of technology readiness levels, allowing suppliers to retain intellectual property ownership, fostering further business growth and technological development.

An initial PS10,000 of feasibility funding was provided in January 2024, which supported Sensor Driven Ltd to: * Create a Business Case * Generate of a Project Plan of milestones and future funding requirements, and * Create a Risk Register. The output of this feasibility study was then further evaluated by Sellafield Ltd and Sensor Driven Ltd have been selected for additional funding for the Proof-of-Concept phase of this project, which will enable them to further develop this concept and technology further. This additional funding to support technology development is due to be awarded following the expiry of this VEAT notice. Gamechangers is an innovation programme which finds solutions for complex nuclear industry challenges and allows the supplier to retain ownership of the Intellectual Property throughout the advancement of technology readiness level. They accept applications and work with all sizes and across all sectors to identify and develop the most promising of technology.
