## Summary

Sheffield Hallam University has completed the procurement process for an Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (ICP MS), categorised under mass spectrometer equipment, aimed at enhancing research capabilities. The project falls under the education category with significant importance to scientific research. Following a mini competition within the NEUPC framework, a direct award was made to PerkinElmer AES (UK) Ltd. The awarded contract, valued at £226,198.91, was signed on 2nd July 2024. The procurement was managed under a limited procurement method, circumventing the necessity for prior publication of a competition call due to specific directive exemptions. The equipment will be delivered to Sheffield, located in the UKE32 region.

This tender offers significant opportunities for businesses involved in high-precision analytical instruments and laboratory equipment, particularly those specialising in mass spectrometry. The contract will bolster research outputs, providing cutting-edge tools that drive both academic and industrial research endeavours. Companies capable of delivering advanced analytical solutions can leverage this procurement to establish or strengthen partnerships within the academic sector, thus expanding their market presence and fostering innovation. PerkinElmer AES (UK) Ltd's success in securing the contract highlights their expertise, making it a prime example for businesses aiming to excel in similar domains.

## Notice

The University has purchased an Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (ICP MS) and service contract after carrying out a mini competition under Lot 1 of the NEUPC framework LAB1029 AP Mass Spectrometry and Chromatography Equipment.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

ICP-MS is a powerful analytical technique that allows elemental signatures of solutions, mixtures and solids to be determined and quantified. The purpose of the new purchase is to provide state-of-the-art instrumentation to the University. This piece of equipment will enable full benefit to be leveraged from our LA system due to faster scan speeds, much better capabilities for quantifying elements that are in low abundance and much better ability to deal with interferences affecting some of our key elements of interest. The enhanced capabilities will enable greater impact of research projects at all levels (from undergraduate research project up) and the benefits will also be available to industry through the Sheffield Multimodal Imaging Centre (SMIC).
