## Summary

The National Museum of the Royal Navy (NMRN) sought to engage a contractor for the "HMS Warrior Dry Dock Project - De-Risking Works" in Portsmouth, UK. Classified under the industry category of complete or part construction and civil engineering works, this project aimed at performing remedial work on HMS Warrior to address areas of advanced degradation, primarily focusing on the stern and the double bottom of the vessel. Originally advertised at £2 million, with an initial funding approval of £300k for the first year, the procurement process adopted an open procedure and the key dates were extended to accommodate senior input on clarifications, with the tender deadline set for 13th September 2024 and award decision expected on 2nd September 2024. Unfortunately, the tender was later cancelled and its award status marked as unsuccessful.

This tender provided a unique opportunity for businesses specialising in civil engineering and historic conservation. Companies experienced in handling complex restoration projects, particularly those involving historic vessels, would have found this project an excellent avenue for growth. Given the prestigious nature of HMS Warrior and its significance as a public museum, successful completion of this project would not only contribute to preserving a piece of naval history but also bolster the contractor's portfolio and visibility in the heritage restoration sector.

## Notice

The National Museum of the Royal Navy (NMRN) intends to employ a Contractor to perform the remedial works on the historic vessel HMS Warrior which is currently used as a public museum. HMS Warrior was the largest and most powerful warship of its day and is now under the guardianship of the NMRN. The ship is docked at Portsmouth's historic dockyard where the ship welcomes visitors all year round. The scope of work is focused on the areas of the ship in the most advanced stages of degradation and, therefore, present the most significant risk to the structural integrity of the vessel. The works are spread out over five years, starting with the areas of the most degradation, mainly the stern and the double bottom. The works are advertised at GBP-2m, please note the tender is packaged work dependent on approved funding by the NMRN. At present, the NMRN have approval for an initial GBP-300k of work for the first year.
