## Summary

Diamond Light Source Ltd, located on the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire, has completed the procurement process for the supply of three 150kW, 500MHz circulators for the Diamond-II project. The procurement, which falls under the industry category of amplifiers and the main goods procurement category, was conducted through an open procedure and has now reached the award stage. Diamond Light Source Ltd signed the contract with AFT Microwave GmbH on 2nd December 2024, with the tender having been initially published on 19th September 2024. The project aims to support the continued scientific innovations at the Diamond facility, which is renowned for its contributions to both academic and industrial research.

This contract presents significant business growth opportunities, particularly for companies specialising in high-power microwave components and related technologies. Firms with expertise in the design, engineering, and manufacturing of complex circulator systems would be well-suited to compete for similar future tenders. The open procurement procedure allowed for competitive bidding, with the selection criteria heavily focusing on technical quality, experience, commercial viability, and delivery capabilities. Participation in such high-profile projects can enhance a company's portfolio, increase visibility in the scientific research sector, and foster long-term partnerships with leading research institutions like Diamond Light Source Ltd.

## Notice

Located on the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire, Diamond Light Source (DLS) is a leading-edge facility for science, engineering and innovation. Diamond allows researchers from academia and industry to investigate the structure and behaviour of the world around us at the atomic and molecular level. To continue delivering the world changing science that Diamond enables, the facility is being upgraded to Diamond-II, a coordinated programme of development that combines a major machine upgrade with new instruments and complementary improvements to optics, detectors, sample environment and delivery capabilities, and computing, as well as integrated and correlative methods. This will be transformative in speed and spatial resolution and will offer users streamlined access to enhanced instruments for life and physical sciences. The scope of the contract is to design, manufacture, deliver three identical 150 kW CW, 500 MHz circulators subject to the performance specification detailed in the tender specification document. Each circulator shall be capable of handling any power up to 150 kW in continuous wave or peak power operation for extended periods.
