## Summary

The University of Edinburgh is overseeing a comprehensive procurement process for an Electrical Works and Associated Services Framework Agreement, aimed at maintaining and enhancing electrical infrastructure across its estates. The agreement spans industries in construction work, specifically focusing on reactive maintenance and planned small works to electrical installations. The procurement encompasses locations in Edinburgh, covering a substantial estate of approximately 550 buildings with contracts set from 13 April 2026 to 12 April 2028, with potential extensions to 2030. As of April 2026, the contracts are in the award stage, following an Open Procedure. The total contract value is estimated at £21,336,497.70, with services to be distributed over two lots: Science & Engineering and Medical & Veterinary Sciences, and Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences alongside Accommodation, Catering and Events.

This procurement offers significant opportunities for businesses in the electrical services sector, particularly those with capabilities in both reactive maintenance and small works within an educational environment. Businesses that meet specific technical and commercial criteria have the opportunity to bid for one or both lot groups, enhancing their growth prospects by accessing projects within a prestigious university setting. A range of suppliers, including OCS Technical Services Limited and SMEs like JGM - John G Mackintosh, have successfully been awarded contracts in the recent cycle. The contract criteria emphasise technical proficiency and competitive pricing, allocating respective weightages of 70% and 30%. This strategic division of lots reduces reliance on a single primary supplier, promoting diversified growth potential among participating firms based on merit and performance across similar quality and pricing parameters. The procurement process favours enterprises with established credentials and financial robustness, creating an environment conducive to sustainable business growth within the public sector.
