## Summary

The London Borough of Lewisham is planning a major refurbishment of Lewisham Library, located at 199 – 201 Lewisham High Street, SE13 6LG. The refurbishment, funded by the Government's Levelling Up initiative, aims to transform the library into a flagship Culture and Business Hub. The project, currently in the planning stage, will include the installation of a new insulated roof and external cladding, new HVAC and IT infrastructure, and various internal renovations. Planning permission was granted in September 2024, and the contract is anticipated to be tendered via a Single Stage open tender process, assessed on cost, quality, and social value. The tender is set to be advertised in late November 2024, with construction expected to start in March 2025 and last for 12-14 months, followed by a 12-month defect rectification period.

This refurbishment creates substantial opportunities for a range of construction and facility management businesses, particularly those with experience in heritage and public building upgrades. Firms specialising in asbestos removal, structural reinforcement, HVAC systems, and sustainable energy solutions are well-positioned to benefit from this contract. The thorough scope of work, which leverages both modernisation efforts and historical preservation, makes this tender particularly attractive for businesses aiming to grow their portfolio in public sector projects. The emphasis on social value also presents chances for community-focused enterprises to contribute meaningfully to this local landmark's transformation.
