## Summary

The Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), based in London, has completed the procurement process for a contract titled "Soil & Slurry/Manure Analysis for the Catchment Sensitive Farming Project." This project falls under the environmental services industry category and was undertaken as an open procedure. The contract, worth £115,633, began on 1st February 2025 and involves delivering nutrient analysis for soil, organic manures, and mineral analysis for livestock feeds. The results aim to support the Catchment Sensitive Farming (CSF) Partnership in soil nutrient management, soil improvement, and livestock feed planning across the UK. An important update for business users is that the submission deadline was extended to 28th November 2024 before the contract was officially signed on 1st February 2025.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in environmental analysis, agricultural consultancy, and laboratory services. Companies like Cawood Scientific Ltd, which was awarded the contract, stand to benefit by providing critical data and insights to farming advisors and Natural England officers, facilitating improved agricultural practices. The contract's emphasis on technical quality (70%) and commercial cost (30%) indicates the project's complexity and the importance of both expertise and value for money. Businesses with a strong track record in similar environmental services and a commitment to supporting sustainable agricultural improvements would be well-suited to compete for such tenders.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

This framework is to deliver nutrient analysis for soil and organic manures as well as mineral analysis for livestock feeds and forage. This information will help provide farmers and the Catchment Sensitive Farming (CSF) Partnership with data and information required for soil nutrient management planning, soil improvement and livestock feed planning. This will enable advisers contracted on behalf of CSF, and Natural England Catchment Sensitive Farming Officers (CSFO), to have the evidence to influence farmers of the benefits of soil testing, good soil nutrient management, and mineral analysis for feeds and forage. These results will be an advice and training tool for CSF to inspire farmers to undertake voluntary action to help improve water and air quality, where agriculture has been identified as part of the issue. The analysis will enable farmers to use crop and livestock nutrients more efficiently, improve soil organic matter and soil health to reduce the risk of nutrient and soil run-off and to improve business efficiency.
