## Summary

Somerset County Council is currently in the tender stage of procuring cleaning services for communal areas in their Housing Revenue Account (HRA) properties. This procurement process, titled "Cleaning of Communal Areas in HRA (Housing) Properties," falls under the industry category of cleaning and sanitation services (CPV code: 90900000). It covers two primary workstreams: cleaning of sheltered housing meeting halls and extra care facilities (Lot 1), and cleaning of communal areas within flat blocks divided into two geographical lots (Lots 2 and 3, with sub-Lots 2A, 2B, 3A, and 3B). The tender process commenced on 11th November 2024, with a submission deadline set for 11th December 2024. The contracts are expected to last for 720 days, with renewal options in place for further extensions of up to 12 months twice.

This tender creates significant opportunities for businesses specialising in cleaning services, particularly those experienced in communal and residential environments. Companies able to meet strict service and budget criteria are invited to bid. SMEs focusing on cleaning services for residential properties, including sheltered housing and extra care schemes, as well as those capable of handling ad-hoc cleaning requirements such as graffiti removal and sharps disposal, would be well-suited to compete. With the potential for multiple contract awards, businesses can bid for one, two, or all three lots, thus allowing diverse growth opportunities depending on expertise and capacity. The open procedure ensures a competitive bidding process, enhancing chances for capable and qualified suppliers to secure new business with a regional authority.
