## Summary

Cardiff University is in the planning stage of a procurement process for acquiring a Portable Human MRI System (CPV code: 33100000, Medical equipment). The target delivery region is the UKL (Wales), with expressions of interest to be submitted by Monday, 25th November 2024. The procurement method is outlined in a Prior Information Notice (PIN) inviting suppliers to express their interest if they can meet the specified requirements. If no alternative suppliers are identified by the deadline, the contract will be awarded directly under Regulation 32.

This tender presents an opportunity for businesses specialising in medical technology, particularly those capable of supplying advanced portable MRI systems. Suppliers with expertise in modular, customisable hardware that includes open-source software for acquisition and reconstruction are well-suited for this contract. The system must operate at a low field strength (40-80 mT) and be compatible with standard single-phase electricity without needing external cooling. Engaging in this procurement process could enable businesses to establish or reinforce their presence in the medical equipment market, particularly in Wales.

Requirements: Portable human MRI system operating at very low field strength 40, and suitable for imaging the brain in vivo. The system should use permanent magnets and must be modular in hardware (i.e. individual parts can be replaced with customised components, but it should come complete of gradients and an RF head coil). The code for running MRI sequences should be open source and freely available (i.e. users must be able to program any acquisition system, not just modify parameters of available ones). No external cooling should be required and it should be powered by a standard single-phase electricity supply. K-space and complex imaging data need to be exportable. - Target anatomy Head - Field strength (B0): between 40 and 80 mT. - Field homogeneity (over 20 cm DSV): Less than 1000 ppm. - Max gradient strength on each channel simultaneously: Greater than 25 mT/m. - Max gradient strength on each channel simultaneously - Number of Rx Channels 8 or more - Hardware Modular and customisable - Software (acquisition) Open source - Software (reconstruction) Open source
