## Summary

The UK Research & Innovation (UKRI) organization has completed a procurement process for the manufacture of the 10J CryoStat Cooling System, with a specific focus on cryosurgical and cryotherapy devices. This procurement falls under the goods category and is intended to upgrade the cryo-cooling systems for the EPAC Laser System's second beamline in the United Kingdom. Noteworthy details include the limited procurement method used, awarding the contract to Green Resource Engineering Ltd without prior publication of a call for competition due to compatibility and integration considerations. The contract, valued at £239,673, was signed on 20th November 2024.

This tender presents significant business opportunities, especially for companies specialising in advanced cryogenic systems and large-scale manufacturing for scientific research facilities. Businesses with expertise in developing and integrating complex cooling systems for high-precision laser installations would be well-suited for such contracts. The single-source action underscores the importance of reliability and existing knowledge, highlighting opportunities for firms that can offer niche, highly specialized products that ensure seamless integration with existing systems, potentially leading to further collaboration and contracts in the research and innovation sector.

## Notice

Manufacture of the 10J CryoStat Cooling System and manufacture of super-insulated 'flexi' lines to connect the cryostats for the EPAC Laser System. The upgrade will ensure the cryo-cooling systems for the second beamline operation in the same manner as the existing system.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

Manufacture of the 10J CryoStat Cooling System and manufacture of super-insulated 'flexi' lines to connect the cryostats for the EPAC Laser System. The upgrade will ensure the cryo-cooling systems for the second beamline operation in the same manner as the existing system. The orginal manufacturer of the cryostat systems for EPAC's first beamline was supplied by GRE who have intimate knowledge of the design and operation of the existing systems. The further cryostate would be a direct replica of the existing systems in EPAC. The previous designs have been fully tests and integrated into the current facility and work well for intended use - these are based on 10 years of development work, and represent significant work on both STFC and GRE to ensure effective integration and operation, therefore an SSA route was decided.

### Procurement Information

In alignment with Regulation 32, UKRI STFC have awarded via Single Sourcing Action (SSA) due to compatibility and integration across all cryostats. This would be an increased risk to the facility as awarding to a new supplier would require a rewrite of all integration software at significant cost and time - The cryostats are a critical component in the facility. In addition if these were supplied by a different manufacturer there is a risk the same performance or compatibility between the two beamlines could not be achieved.
