## Summary

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has completed a procurement process for the "Imported Food Sampling, Analysis and Reporting Framework," specifically targeting the research and development services sector. This contract is designed to assess food safety risks from imported foods at the retail level across Great Britain. The procurement followed an open procedure, which concluded with an award on 5th August 2025, involving an active contract worth £450,000. The work packages under this contract are renewed annually, starting April 2026, contingent upon FSA budget availability. The primary supplier is Fera Science Limited, supported by the UK Health Security Agency for microbiological analysis as subcontractors. The procurement involves extensive technical analyses to comply with food safety regulations, with a 2-year extension option available upon agreement.

This contract presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in research laboratory services, particularly those with capabilities in food sampling and analytical testing. The open procurement method allows a broad range of businesses, including large laboratories, to tender and potentially renew contracts annually, fostering long-term partnerships with the FSA. Given the scope of work and the annual renewal process, businesses experienced in managing large-scale food safety projects are particularly well-suited to compete. Additionally, subcontracting opportunities suggest synergies for collaborative efforts with established entities like the UK Health Security Agency, providing further avenues for business growth and market presence.

## Notice

Sampling of imported food products at a retail level across GB to help identify and provide evidence for emerging food safety risks from imported foods. Contract broken into annual Work Packages to be agreed by FSA.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

FS430790 The Supplier will carry out specific imported food commodity sampling, transportation to labs and analytical testing for a range of residues/contaminants. The work packages are expected to be agreed annually, starting in April 2026 with each package concluding, including delivery of the draft final report before March the following year.
Although it would be our intention to request work annually, there is a reliance on FSA receiving a sufficient budget to allow this to happen. The FSA cannot guarantee any work packages.

Renewal: 2 year optional extension.
