## Summary

The procurement process for the "Primary Care Healthcare Waste Collection and Disposal Service" was initiated by the NHS Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board. The procurement falls under the healthcare industry category, specifically focusing on clinical waste management services in the locations of Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire, identified by the region codes UKK11 and UKK12. This tender reached the award stage on the 7th of April 2026, following an open procedure. The new contract, valued at a maximum of £9,182,529 inclusive of VAT over 9 years, begins on the 1st of October 2026. The procurement entails a comprehensive service covering collection, transport, storage, treatment, and incineration of healthcare waste, alongside the provision of containers, decontamination, waste tracking for compliance, and promotion of waste segregation.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in healthcare waste management, particularly those with capabilities in handling regulated clinical and pharmaceutical waste. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have the opportunity to compete, with two out of the four final stage bids from SMEs, making it an accessible contract for such businesses. Furthermore, the projected long-term contract duration with possible extensions up to 9 years provides sustained business growth prospects. Enterprises capable of delivering integrated waste management solutions with a focus on compliance, safety, and environmental effectiveness are especially well-suited to leverage this opportunity for strategic expansion in the public healthcare sector.
