## Summary

The Department for Education is currently in the planning phase of the Social Work Induction Programme (SWIP), designed to extend the training and support for child and family social workers in the early stages of their careers. The initiative aims to bolster the development and retention of social workers by extending induction support from one year in the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) to two years under SWIP. Classified under the 'Education and Training Services' category, it targets several regions across the United Kingdom including UKC, UKD, UKF, UKG, UKH, UKJ, and UKK. Interested parties are invited to engage in market consultation events, with an initial event scheduled for 29th April 2025. The procurement process envisages commencing on 1st April 2026, with completion by 31st March 2029, and future notice dates indicating progress updates by 6th October 2025.

The Social Work Induction Programme presents significant potential for growth among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs) that specialise in education and training services. Providing opportunities to shape the programme's design and contribute to the development of future social workers' skills, this tender may appeal particularly to organisations capable of delivering comprehensive educational content. Additionally, participants will have opportunities to engage further through one-to-one sessions scheduled between 14th and 23rd May 2025, while further events may be held dependent on initial engagement feedback. Companies already serving the public sector or those exploring market expansion could find this programme a favourable endeavour, leveraging experienced offerings or innovative solutions to enhance its value and impact on the social work domain.

## Notice

The Social Work Induction Programme (SWIP) will significantly extend the training and support child and family social workers receive in the early stages of their career, helping to equip them with the knowledge and skills they need and retain them in the profession. We plan for the induction support for early career social workers to be extended from one year in the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) to two years in the SWIP. We have developed a new set of Post-Qualifying Standards (PQS) which set out the knowledge and skills new social workers need by the end of their second year in post, they will underpin the training and development within those first two years of the children's social work profession. Please note, this notice is not being used to signify the commencement of any competitive process and does not constitute any commitment by the Department for Education. Funding estimates included within the notice are indicative only and are subject to Spending Review outcomes. The Department makes no commitment at this stage to the final funding envelope for contractual activity.
