## Summary

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT), a central government public authority based in Bristol, UK, is currently in the planning stage of a tender process involving the procurement of additive solutions for the washing and re-suspension of red blood cell components suitable for transfusion. The tender, titled "Additive Solution for the washing and re-suspension of Red Blood Cell components suitable for transfusion," invites expressions of interest by 30th June 2025. This procurement exercise falls under the medical solutions industry category and is valued at approximately £240,000, although the total gross value is £288,000. This initiative is aimed at sourcing sterile solutions such as SAG-M or PAGGSM, and ensuring compliance with UK transfusion guidelines. The engagement process will help NHSBT assess market capabilities and supplier readiness, with the future possibility of formal tenders or contracts post-2026.

This tender represents a notable opportunity for businesses specialising in pharmaceutical products, blood substitutes, and infusion supplies, specifically those manufacturing red cell additive solutions. Innovative suppliers capable of providing sterile, well-labelled solutions that are compatible with NHSBT's specialised washing processes can leverage this engagement to showcase their capabilities and secure long-term government contracts. The engagement particularly suits small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) looking to expand their footprint in the healthcare sector by collaborating with a central public authority. Participants can benefit by aligning their product offerings with NHSBT’s specific requirements and potentially positioning themselves for further procurement opportunities leading up to and beyond the commencement date of 1st November 2026.
