## Summary

The procurement process initiated by Northern Trains Limited involves a direct award contract for "CAF TSSSA Class 331 rolling stock units" in the context of public authority central government projects. This contract, valued at approximately £93.4 million net, is designed to secure technical support and spares supply services necessary for maintaining their fleet of Class 331 electric multiple units across several UK regions, including UKC, UKD, UKE, UKF, UKG, UKH, UKI, UKJ, and UKK. The procurement stage is documented as a contract amendment as of June 27, 2025, and follows the direct award method due to CAF Rail UK Limited's unique technical capability and proprietary knowledge as the original equipment manufacturer. The contract commenced on April 1, 2025, with services planned over a decade, concluding on April 1, 2035.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in railway maintenance, engineering, and spare parts supply sectors. Given the long-term nature and comprehensive service requirements, including spares management, logistics, and operational engineering support, companies that possess robust supply chain management systems and engineering expertise are well-suited to engage. The contract also allows for novation or assignment to other Train Operating Companies, offering flexibility and potential business expansions in aligning with larger industry needs. Businesses looking to leverage their involvement in public sector rail services will find this project beneficial, particularly those capable of enhancing or integrating TCMS (Train Control Management System) functionalities.
