## Summary

Liverpool John Moores University, located in Liverpool, United Kingdom, has concluded a procurement process for a "Portable Makerless Motion Capture System" in the industry category of specialised software. The procurement stage is Award, and the contract award was dated 9 April 2025. The procurement method used was a direct award, classified as "Below threshold - without competition." The planned delivery of this contract stretches from 23 April 2025 to 23 April 2026. This procurement is essential for the university's biomechanics research group, which relies on the "Theia3D" software for converting high-speed multi-camera 2D video data into 3D motion capture for academic and research purposes.

This tender offers significant growth opportunities for businesses specialising in advanced motion capture technology, especially those focusing on higher education and research institutions. Companies with expertise in industry-specific software packages and capable of providing seamless technical support would be well-suited for similar contracts. SMEs that cater to the needs of academic research and possess the required technological compatibility could find this market conducive for expansion, given the established partnership with specialised vendors like Theia Makerless Inc. The direct procurement approach highlights the importance of expertise and existing integration within professional workflows.

## Notice

Over the previous years the school of Sports Science has invested in this particular hardware ecosystem from this particular vendor to support the research and consultancy aims of the biomechanics research group. As such we already have a version of this particular hardware configuration fully integrated into our teaching, research and consultancy workflows and operational procedures. The basis of our markerless motion capture work (and existing commercially sponsored research project) requires the use of "Theia3D" to process and convert high-speed multi-camera synchronous 2D video data into 3D digitisations of whole-body human movement. Alternative hardware/software approaches are not compatible and would render us inoperable for existing research projects and externally funded activities. This procurement is fully compatible and sourced direct from the supplier.
