## Summary

The British Library, located in London, has completed the procurement process for the "Secret Maps" exhibition, which will explore the relationship between mapping and secrecy from the 9th to the 21st centuries. The procurement falls under the industry category of Entertainment Film Production and has been awarded to Chocolate Films. The contract period started on 17th April 2025 and will run until 30th September 2025. This procurement process was managed below the threshold and required coordinated efforts between the AV contractor, 3D design team, and AV hardware contractor.

This tender offers significant opportunities for businesses in the creative and entertainment sectors, particularly those with expertise in film production and collaboration in exhibition settings. Large-scale companies that can provide high-quality audiovisual services and have experience in producing engaging content for exhibitions would be well-suited for such projects. The involvement in a high-profile exhibition at the British Library allows for substantial visibility and the chance to showcase innovative film production capabilities.

## Notice

Secret Maps will explore the relationship between mapping and secrecy in a global context between the 9th and 21st centuries. It is an exhibition about how and why, contrary to their modern appreciation as things which openly provide knowledge of the world, maps have been utilised by governments, armies, businesses, organisations, communities and individuals in the withholding of all kinds of spatial knowledge. The exhibition will explore what types of spatial information (from hidden treasure to personal data) have been subject to attempts at secrecy. It will consider whether historical control of spatial information has influenced how the world is perceived, and whether, in an age where spatial data is routinely shared and democratised, it is easier or more difficult to keep a secret today. We require an AV contractor to join the team to produce four films for the exhibition. The filmmaker/contractor will be expected to collaborate with the appointed 3D design team and AV hardware contractor to ensure seamless co-ordination. This will be by e-mail, video call, telephone call or in person meetings and managed by the British Library team.
