## Summary

The procurement process led by Cumberland Council regarding "The Collection and Disposal of Food Waste" has concluded with an award stage. The Council, acting as the buying organisation, sought to create a partnering arrangement through a concession contract for waste services within the region of UKD1. This process involved Cumbria Waste Recycling Limited as the successful supplier, with a contract awarded on 19th March 2026, commencing on 1st April 2026 and potentially extending until 31st March 2031. This initiative falls under the services industry category, emphasising refuse and waste-related services. The procurement stage reflects completion, having followed an open competition method under the UKPGA legal basis, with key dates signalling contract operations from 2026 to 2029, with possibilities for further renewal based on performance outcomes.

This tender presents significant business growth prospects, notably for entities equipped to handle separate food waste collections and processing via methods such as anaerobic digestion. Organisations with suitable environmental permits that allow the collection, storage, and processing of food waste are primed to benefit. Cumberland Council seeks collaboration with diverse business communities and welcomes participation from SMEs, enabling such organisations to leverage this opportunity to expand their recycling services footprint. With the potential for contract extensions, businesses delivering efficient waste management solutions and demonstrating commendable social value alongside competitive pricing on their bids stand to gain long-term commercial partnerships with the Council.
