## Summary

Reading Borough Council, identified as a sub-central government public authority, has completed the procurement process for the Carers' Support Service. This tender aimed to enhance the quality of life, health, and wellbeing of carers in Reading through community-based preventative services. The procurement, conducted under an open procedure, commenced with a call for tenders in April 2025 and concluded with an award decision on 8 August 2025. The Carers' Support Service, which had a gross contract value of GBP 928,215, falls under the 'Social work and related services' industry category and is part of the Closing the Gap programme. The contract is set to start on 1 November 2025 and will run until 31 October 2028, with a potential renewal for an additional two years.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in social work and community services to engage in a substantial public sector initiative that focuses on reducing health inequalities. The project is particularly suited for SMEs and VCSE organisations, acknowledging their role in the final bidding stages. Companies that offer innovative, community-focused solutions and have experience in providing advisory and support services to vulnerable populations might find lucrative opportunities in similar future procurements from the council. Engaging in this sector allows businesses to build a reputation within public services and foster growth through long-term contractual work.
