## Summary

The Defence Equipment and Support, a central government public authority based in Bristol, United Kingdom, has completed a direct award contract with RTX Corporation for the provision of support for the Titan Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) for the T-62T-2B Chinook and T-62-40C7EH Merlin helicopters. This contract was awarded under the Procurement Act 2023 due to technical reasons, citing Pratt & Whitney as the original equipment manufacturer with unique capabilities. The contract, valued at £7,500,000 gross, is set to commence on 1st November 2025 and last for two years with an optional 12-month extension. Key components of the contract include the repair and overhaul of the APU and the provision of a post-design service, classified under CPV code 50211210 for repair and maintenance services of aircraft engines. The award aligns with the defence and security category and serves to maintain the operational readiness and serviceability of the UK’s military helicopter fleet.

This procurement presents significant business opportunities, particularly for large firms capable of delivering advanced repair and maintenance services for aircraft engines. Businesses with expertise in military-grade equipment, technical proficiency in handling complex aerospace components, and proven capabilities in high-stakes environments are well-positioned to take advantage of such contracts. The direct award nature of the contract highlights the importance of owning proprietary technology and being the original equipment manufacturer, underscoring the opportunity for companies to invest in developing similarly exclusive technical competencies. Furthermore, the contract's inclusion of a potential extension year suggests ongoing demand and the possibility of durable business relationships within the defence sector.

## Notice

The UK Chinook and Merlin fleets are heavily committed to operations world-wide as well as contingent military tasks and continuation training. Both aircraft are fitted with the Pratt & Whitney Titan T62. The Chinook Delivery Team has to maintain appropriate arrangements to ensure platform availability and serviceability - to support a Forward Fleet of aircraft as well as to facilitate the timely completion of aircraft depth maintenance. In line with the above, the Chinook Delivery Team intends to direct award the contract for support to the Titan Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) for the for the T-62T-2B Chinook and T-62-40C7EH Merlin Helicopters to Pratt & Whitney under Schedule 5, Paragraph 6 of the Procurement Act 2023 (Technical Reasons). The intention is to place an initial two year contract, with an option to extend for a further 12 months. The contract will include the Repair and Overhaul (R&O), as well as the provision of a Post Design Service, for the Titan T-62T-2B (fitted to Chinook) and T-62-40C7EH (fitted to Merlin) Auxiliary Power Unit (APU). CPV Code: 50211210 - Repair and maintenance services of aircraft engines.
