## Summary

The Defence Equipment and Support, a central government public authority based in Bristol, has completed a direct award procurement process for the Phalanx Close In Weapons System (CIWS) In-Service Support (ISS) PAC 5 contract. The procurement falls under the defence and security category and spans from 5th October 2026 to 31st July 2031, with the total contract value estimated at £60 million. The procurement method was direct due to the technical expertise required, and the award was made to Devonport Royal Dockyard Ltd (DRDL) in Plymouth, reflecting their unique capability to fulfil the requirements.

This tender offers significant opportunities for businesses specialising in military defence services and warship repair and maintenance to grow through long-term, high-value contracts. Although a direct award was made due to technical constraints, it demonstrates the critical nature of trusted and experienced suppliers in defence and security disciplines. Businesses with expertise in interoperability and robust technical solutions are well-positioned to engage with similar future opportunities within the defence industry.
