## Summary

The procurement process for the "WMIN Converged Digital Imaging Platform" is currently in the planning stage, spearheaded by University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. This initiative is targeted within the goods industry category, specifically under medical software packages. The procurement aims to establish a unified digital imaging platform for the West Midlands Imaging Network, replacing various systems at up to 15 NHS Trusts in the West Midlands, UKG31 region. The planned contract period is set from April 2026 to March 2036, with potential extension to 2041. Prospective suppliers should anticipate a future notice by July 2025, with the overall project valued at approximately £76 million GBP, reaching a gross amount of over £91 million GBP.

This tender represents significant opportunities for growth, particularly for businesses specialising in medical software and digital imaging solutions. The procurement seeks a flexible ecosystem equipped to integrate AI and support research, indicating a need for innovative and technologically advanced solutions. Companies capable of delivering comprehensive imaging platforms with enhanced functionality such as automated workflows and cross-site data sharing will be well-positioned to compete. The eligibility criteria make it particularly suitable for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) who can offer locally tailored solutions within a large network environment. Being part of this venture could provide lasting partnerships and visibility within the NHS infrastructure.

## Notice

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust on behalf of the West Midlands Imaging Network intends to procure a Converged Digital Imaging Platform (CDIP) across up to 15 NHS Trusts within the West Midlands Region. This modern, future-proof solution will replace the independently procured systems currently used by each trust, including Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) and Radiology Information Systems (RIS), with a centralised digital platform. Scope and Key Objectives Unified Digital Solution: CDIP will deliver a single platform to meet the digital needs of imaging departments across all 15 trusts, supporting clinical imaging, radiology services, and the potential for future incorporation of other specialities (e.g., pathology, cardiology). Some trusts already have incorporated other (non-radiology) specialities (e.g. clinical photography) into their imaging archive. CDIP will replicate this wherever such an ecosystem exists. Enhanced Functionality: In addition to PACS and RIS features, the platform will offer advanced capabilities to automate workflows, improve cross-site image and related-data (including reports) sharing, reporting, and scheduling, and enable network-wide business intelligence. Flexible Ecosystem: The CDIP will be designed to meet WMIN's functional and operational requirements, allowing flexibility for locally defined workflows tailored to specific specialities or modalities. The platform will also support AI integration and research through its connection with the West Midlands Trusted Research Environment (TRE).
