## Summary

Birmingham City Council has awarded a contract for the Provision of a Birmingham Community Equipment Loan Service, aiming to assist Birmingham's citizens in living independently. This contract, valued at up to £114 million, will be operational from 1st April 2027 for five years, with an option to extend for an additional five years, subject to satisfactory performance and funding. The procurement follows an open procedure and the award was granted to Medequip Assistive Technology Ltd, emphasizing services within the hospital and community health industry category, with the main location centred in Birmingham, UK (UKG31). Key dates include the tender announcement on 13th January 2026, with the award issued on 22nd June 2026. The contract identifies potential modifications for additional services, potentially increasing the total value by £67 million.

This tender provides significant opportunities for growth, particularly for businesses experienced in healthcare logistics and community services, such as the provision and maintenance of community equipment. While the contract was awarded to a large provider, medium-sized enterprises with expertise in health and social care solutions may find collaboration opportunities in subcontracts or potential contract extensions. The service's dynamic nature, addressing community needs like hospital prevention and supporting independent living, aligns with businesses capable of offering innovative, scalable solutions in the health support sector.
