## Summary

The British Library has awarded a contract to either J. AND J. Negus Limited or J&J Negus Ltd t/a Genus for the supply, delivery, installation, and on-site maintenance of digitisation studio scanning equipment. This contract supports the digitisation of archival and heritage materials using state-of-the-art equipment aligned with Windows 11. Spanning both Boston Spa and St Pancras locations, the contract specifies various types of scanners including microfilm and large-format models. The procurement process was conducted using an open procedure and has now reached the award stage. The contract was signed on 15 July 2025, with its period extending from 4 August 2025 to 30 September 2028. There are provisions for renewal with seven optional 12-month extensions.

This tender presents business growth opportunities especially for companies in the technology and digitisation sectors. SMEs with capabilities in supplying advanced scanning technology or providing comprehensive equipment maintenance services would find this contract attractive. Given the scale and technical requirements of the project, it presents a lucrative venture for suppliers able to innovate and deliver quality services and products promptly. The open procurement method allowed for broad participation, which could be advantageous for businesses seeking to establish or expand their presence in the public sector, particularly in servicing cultural and heritage institutions like the British Library.

## Notice

The purpose of this tender is to procure a suite of brand-new Windows 11 compliant digitisation equipment which is interoperable with the current studio equipment and software. The machines required will be located in our Boston Spa, West Yorkshire site, with the exception of one microfilm scanner which will be located in St Pancras, London. This equipment is to support the high-quality, high-speed mass digital capture of a wide range of archival and heritage materials.
