## Summary

The UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), a public authority within the central government, initiated the Design & Build Framework to address significant challenges in fusion systems and components. Operating from Oxfordshire, UK, this procurement process encompasses various lots focusing on nuclear safety, evaluation instruments, and engineering design services. The procurement stage has transitioned from tender to award, with significant dates including the award notice published on 22 August 2025, a standstill period concluding on 3 September 2025, and the contract period running from 5 September 2025 to 4 September 2026. The open procedure was employed for the procurement method, ensuring a transparent and competitive selection process.

This framework creates extensive opportunities for business growth, particularly for those specialising in innovative engineering solutions and nuclear technologies. SMEs and large enterprises have secured positions as suppliers, illustrating the potential for both scales of business to contribute to the Fusion Futures programme. Companies with expertise in nuclear safety, engineering, and integration systems benefit from participating in this framework, enhancing their capabilities and reputation in the sector. Businesses well-suited to compete in this field include those adept in advanced material engineering, precision design, and compliance with rigorous safety standards, offering them a gateway to significant roles in pioneering future energy solutions.

## Notice

A framework for a series of interconnected projects aimed at design, engineering, testing, and deployment efforts to address critical challenges in fusion systems, components, and facilities. Indicative projects focusses on innovation, technology readiness, and enabling collaborations within the supply chain. To deliver on these series of interconnected projects under the technical themes, suppliers with expertise and capabilities are required

### Lot Information

Design and Build Framework

This Procurement Project is to create a Framework for the delivery of future projects relating to the Fusion Futures programme. This Framework is designed for the Fusion Futures Industry Capability programme but not limited to it.

Design & Build Framework Lot 2: Component Design, Build & System Integration

This lot focuses on the design, manufacturing, and integration of high-performance components and systems for fusion applications. It includes the development of mechanical, electrical, and thermal components, their assembly into working subsystems, and their integration into larger operational frameworks. Given the extreme conditions of fusion environments, this work requires advanced materials, precision engineering, and compliance with stringent safety and performance standards.

Design & Build Framework Lot 3: Prototype & Rig Design and Build

This lot focuses on the design, development, and testing of prototype systems and experimental rigs that support fusion research. It includes the creation of test beds for validating new technologies, experimental setups for component qualification, and prototype systems that could be scaled into operational fusion reactors. This category is crucial for bridging the gap between theoretical research and practical application in fusion energy development.

Design & Build Framework Lot 4: Design and Build Digital & Control Systems

This lot focuses on the design, development, and integration of digital, IT, and control systems for fusion applications. It includes software development, real-time control frameworks, high-performance computing (HPC), automation, and advanced data processing for fusion reactor operations. These systems are crucial for optimizing plasma control, ensuring operational safety, and enabling remote monitoring of fusion experiments.
