## Summary

The University of Edinburgh has concluded a procurement process for the creation and development of a medical device prototype, specifically an IBDSENSE Fluorescence Reader and Sample Cartridge, aimed at application in clinical environments. The project falls under the category of prototyping services and involves a contract valued at £350,000. The procurement utilised the open procedure method and the involvement of supplier eg technology Ltd has been announced, marking the award stage of this contract as active as of 23rd September 2025. Although one lot was initially cancelled, the procurement aims for further modification options, with potential extensions available up until September 2028. The location specified for this procurement activity is Edinburgh, within the UKM75 region.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in medical device design, engineering, and development to expand their portfolio and gain substantial project experience. Companies with expertise in research and development services, specifically those skilled in prototyping and creating development models, would be well-suited for future engagements. Additionally, the focus on technical quality in the award criteria, which weighs 90% of the evaluation, suggests that businesses with robust technological capabilities have a competitive advantage. Furthermore, small and medium-sized enterprises, particularly those accustomed to delivering tailored technological solutions in the healthcare sector, may find this procurement advantageous for fostering growth and establishing a stronger foothold in the public healthcare procurement market. The invitation for sub-contracting within the Edinburgh and South East Scotland region also offers broader participation and potential community benefits.
