## Summary

The procurement process led by UK Research & Innovation (UKRI) seeks to provide satellite communication services for the British Antarctic Survey (BAS). The objective is to maintain internet connectivity across both the RRS Sir David Attenborough and the research stations. This involves two lots: a Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) satellite connection and a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) connection, both of which were awarded to Omniaccess SL. The contract is active, commencing on 14th October 2025 through 30th September 2027, with an extension option available for up to two additional years. The open procurement procedure underscores transparency and competitiveness in the process.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses in the satellite communications industry, particularly those specialising in networking and internet infrastructure services. Given the scale and technical demands of the project, large enterprises and experienced suppliers in the field are well-suited to engage. The emphasis on service uptime and rapid response times in emergency situations highlights the importance of reliable and high-quality service provision. This contract not only supports technological advancement but also strengthens business ties between the UK and Spain, fostering further international collaboration and business growth.
