## Summary

The buying organisation CERN, an international scientific institution, is planning a procurement process titled "Supply of a 3 T Solenoid Magnet System for the ISOLDE Experiment". This procurement falls under the industry category of "Magnets" with a focus on goods, and it will be conducted in the UK region. Currently at the planning stage, the process does not yet have a specified deadline for the Invitation to Tender, although a market survey has been conducted. The legal basis for this procurement is grounded in European Union law, with the tender having a total estimated value of CHF 1,500,000. The initial communication date of the process information was on 9th July 2025, and potential suppliers are encouraged to engage with the Pre-Qualification Questionnaire at this stage.

This tender presents significant growth opportunities for businesses specialising in superconducting technology and cryogenic systems. Companies with experience in manufacturing solenoid magnets and related electrical equipment, particularly those that can ensure compliance with standards such as EN 17527 for helium cryostats, will find this tender well-suited to their capabilities. The process is overseen administratively by Hugh Alabaster from CERN, indicating a high level of technical rigor and procurement standards due to the organisation’s reputation in the scientific community. Furthermore, the tender is covered by the Government Procurement Agreement, providing an open and competitive environment for international suppliers to participate.

## Notice

Short Description: This Market Survey concerns the supply of a superconducting solenoid magnet system that shall operate at 4.3 K and provide an operational magnetic field of 3 T.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

The solenoid magnet shall generate a 3 T horizontal field. The magnet shall be positioned on a 30 kV platform, feature a hall probe. The field homogeneity and field axis shall be reproducible after de- and reenergization of the system, i.e. no mechanical adjustment nor magnetic field measurements are required after each cycle. The cryostat hosting the magnet shall be positioned on the 30 kV platform. It shall be equipped with adequate cryogenic instrumentation for its operation (e.g. temperature sensors, controllers, heaters and liquid He level sensors). The cryostat shall comply with EN 17527 for helium cryostats. Additional information: Please note that even after the 'official' stated deadline on the market survey has passed, the contract remains open until the Invitation to Tender is issued. A Market Survey is merely an expression of interest and does not in any way constitute a commitment to bid. If you are interested in this contract, we encourage you to submit the Pre-Qualification Questionnaire and you are welcome to later
