## Summary

The recent procurement process overseen by Stoke on Trent City Council involved the commissioning of "Targeted Short Breaks Activities for Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)" under the title CAFS/2024/227. The procurement fell within the services category, specifically targeting daycare services for disabled children and young people, and was carried out through an open procedure. Located in the UKG23 region, the contracting phase was completed by 4th February 2026. The framework for this initiative reopened to new providers on 1st April 2026, following a previous round of contract awards in January 2026 to organisations such as Doves Care and Support Ltd and Furry Friends Therapy CIC, each receiving contracts valued at £401,600.

This tender presents growth potential for organisations specialising in services for individuals with special needs. Companies offering diverse short break activities designed for independent children and young people, as well as family-inclusive events, are especially well-suited for this framework. As the framework is open to various providers, including SMEs based outside Stoke-on-Trent, businesses offering unique services within a ten-mile radius stand to benefit. This opportunity allows for engagement with public sector contracts and the potential to provide social value, enhancing community ties and broadening the service offerings available to families in need of these targeted services.

## Notice

Targeted short break activities provide opportunities for children and young people with SEND to engage in fun, safe and supportive activities independently. They allow children and young people to have independence and social opportunities away from their families whilst giving parents/carers a break from their caring roles and responsibilities. Targeted short break activities can also provide opportunities for the whole family to enjoy activities together. Since April 2025 Stoke-on-Trent City Council has commissioned Targeted Short Break Activities for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) via a framework.
