## Summary

The Mining Remediation Authority (MRA), a central government public authority based in Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom, has completed a procurement process for a significant environmental project titled "Brodsworth Monitoring Borehole." This initiative, located in South Yorkshire, falls under the services category and involves creating a new mine water pumping borehole to manage mine water pollution effectively and enhance environmental protection. The procurement was conducted through an open procedure under the Procurement Act 2023 regulations. Key dates for the process included the award of the contract to DRILCORP LIMITED on 9th January 2026, with the contract commencing on 12th January 2026 and expected to conclude by 26th June 2026.

This tender presents substantial opportunities for businesses specialising in drilling services and related activities, such as logging and downhole services. SMEs like DRILCORP LIMITED, located in Seaham, participated and succeeded in winning the contract, reflecting the suitability of small and medium-sized enterprises for such projects. The competitive procurement process focused on achieving best value and actively managing risks, which aligns with modern procurement practices that aim to balance cost efficiency with high-quality service delivery. Businesses with expertise in borehole drilling services and those capable of handling complex environmental projects are ideally positioned to benefit from similar opportunities in the future.

## Notice

The project involves the completion of a new mine water pumping borehole on land north of Brodsworth Country Park in South Yorkshire, following a compliant open tender under the new Procurement Act 2023 regulations. The key objectives set by the MRA include, maintaining a deviation of less than 2m from the planned location, effectively screening and sealing overlying aquifers, and mitigating risks of mine water pollution. The project also aims to protect and enhance the environment, minimise disruption to local residents and businesses, and ensure safety for the communities served. Additionally, the project seeks to actively manage risks, deliver best value through competitive procurement, and transfer risks to the most capable parties.

### Planning Information

The Mining Remediation Authority (MRA) are continuously seeking ways to improve our projects. In the past our delivery partners have drilled a piolet hole first using wireline coring system to maintain the verticality.
A significant risk is the potential for the roadway to differ from expectations, which could lead to missing the intended target. However, this method offers the flexibility to re-drill to an alternative target at minimal additional cost.
We would greatly value your feedback on this proposed approach or a suitable approach to minimise risk and cost of Drilling BH.
