## Summary

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), a central government authority based in Southampton, UK, has completed the procurement process titled "MCA Long Sand Head Routeing Review". This procurement falls under the services category, specifically focusing on technical analysis or consultancy services. The project addresses navigational challenges at the Long Sand Head on the Southeast coast of England near the Port of London, an area known for slight shoaling and migration issues. The award was made through an open competition, below threshold procurement method. NASH Maritime Ltd, a large supplier located in Southampton, was awarded the contract, which commenced on 30th January 2026 and is set to conclude on 29th July 2026, with the contract valued at £79,960.

This tender presents a substantial opportunity for businesses specialising in marine research, technical analysis, and consultancy services related to maritime navigation. Given the focus on long-term predictive analysis and risk assessment, companies with expertise in geophysical consultancy or those with innovative solutions for maritime route planning are well-suited to compete. The tender invites businesses to leverage their technical expertise in order to develop strategic, data-driven routeing solutions, thus fostering potential growth and partnerships within the maritime industry. The successful bidder, with its large-scale operations, exemplifies the level of technical proficiency and industry understanding required to capitalize on such opportunities.

## Notice

The Long Sand Head two-way route is located on the Southeast coast of England in the Sunk TSS area which leads in/out of the major Port of London. Over the preceding 10 years; routine re-survey work has been carried out as part of the Civil Hydrography Programme which has identified a slight shoaling and north-eastward migration of the Long Sand Head which has been found to be encroaching into the adjacent two-way route and ultimately causing a narrowing on the navigable corridor. The MCA is seeking to understand the options and potential solutions which are available relating to the procurement of services to firstly understand the predicted movement of the sandbank, Long Sand Head, over the next 10, 15 and 20 years. Then, utilising that data, to consider and where required, refine and develop alternative potential routeing design solutions based on navigation risk assessments, baselined against risk today, understanding the needs of current users of the scheme and future solutions taking into account the impact of any changes to the Long Sand Head two way route for traffic navigating the SUNK Centre Precautionary Area.
