## Summary

Westminster City Council has completed the procurement process for the "WCC Housing Play Areas: Playground Inspection and Maintenance Services" contract, aimed at ensuring the safety and maintenance of playground facilities in London, United Kingdom. This four-year contract, with an initial term of two years followed by possible extensions of one year each, was awarded on 26th March 2026. It involves an open procedure sourcing method, highlighting its inclusive approach in attracting bids from various suppliers. The process culminated in an award to KOMPAN Limited, a small and medium-sized enterprise based in Milton Keynes, marking the end of tender process activities initiated in August 2025. With a projected gross value of £600,000, the contract does not have a fixed price, as its actual value will depend on the type and volume of work undertaken throughout the contract period, extending potentially until 31st March 2030.

This contract presents an excellent growth opportunity for companies specialising in playground equipment repair and maintenance, particularly those proficient in electronic management systems, risk assessment, and training provisions. The focus on safety and operational inspections ensures high standards in the industry, offering a thriving market for quality-driven suppliers. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and Voluntary Community and Social Enterprises (VCSEs) are particularly well-suited to benefit from this open procurement method, allowing them to compete effectively based on technical, responsible procurement, and pricing evaluations. Businesses equipped to offer both technical expertise and responsible procurement practices stand to gain by enhancing community play spaces while expanding their service offerings in public sector contracts.
