## Summary

The recent procurement process conducted by the Mining Remediation Authority focused on the project titled "Wemyss Scour Protection," which is classified under engineering services. The site is located approximately 2km north-west of New Row, near Abermagwr, UKL1 region. The process concluded with the award stage, and the contract's status is complete as of 12th August 2025. This procurement utilised a limited method without prior publication, addressing low-value requirements for scour protection works to mitigate erosion at the Wemyss mine site. Key dates include the contract signing on 18th March 2025, with the works focusing on laying rock rolls according to Mining Remediation Authority specifications. The procurement was justified as a necessity outside the normal scope of the directive.

The awarded contract presents opportunities for businesses specialising in environmental protection and engineering services, especially those involved in mine site remediation. Midwest Plant Ltd, an SME, secured the award, highlighting opportunities for similarly scaled enterprises to capitalise on such tenders. The contract value was £33,520, indicating opportunities for businesses with expertise in competitive pricing and technical service delivery to engage with public sector buyers like the Mining Remediation Authority. Companies looking to expand into environmental engineering and protection services will find this sector promising for growth and business development.

## Notice

The Site is located approximately 2km north-west of New Row, on the road to Abermagwr. The grid reference for the centre of the site is SN SN716 741. The spoil tips of the Wemyss mine site lie to the north and south of the Cwmnewydion Road. The Lower Mill Stream is culverted under the road and flows south to its confluence with the Nant Cwmnewydion. The Lower Mill Stream is eroding the tips on the south side of the road, particularly where it exits the culvert under the road and hits the side of the tip with high velocity. Between October 2024 and January 2025, a section of tip approximately 1m high, 0.5m deep and 4m wide collapsed into the stream. The works are required to reduce the erosion of the tips. The works comprise laying rock rolls at the toe of the tips in the places where they have been observed to be actively eroding, in accordance with the Mining Remediation Authority drawings
