## Summary

The recent contract awarded by South Ayrshire Council is for the provision of a Carer Respite Service, with the aim to support carers' health and wellbeing as defined by the Carers Scotland Act 2016. This contract falls under the health and social work services category, specifically targeting services related to social work. Located in the region of South Ayrshire, Scotland, the service involves care for individuals who require support due to various conditions, allowing their unpaid carers a respite. The procurement process for this service reached the award stage on 27th August 2025, with the active contract signed on 26th August 2025. The procurement was conducted through a limited method, resulting in a contract valued at £592,574, with the supplier being Crossroads (South Ayrshire) Care Attendant Scheme, based in Prestwick, Scotland.

This tender represents a substantial opportunity for businesses involved in health and social work services, particularly those that focus on providing support and care solutions for carers and the vulnerable individuals they assist. Companies specialising in social care services that cater to both adult and young carers, and that can align with the mandates of the Carers Scotland Act 2016, would be well-suited to engage with similar future opportunities. The ability to enhance service delivery, meet regional care standards, and effectively manage respite services could lead to significant growth potential in the market within the South Ayrshire region and beyond. As the procurement method did not involve prior publication of a competition call, businesses with established ties or specialised expertise might find similar contract pathways to secure essential roles in public service provision.
