## Summary

Middlesbrough Council, a public authority operating under sub-central government, has successfully completed a procurement process titled "R064 - Walkabout Display Case Move." This project was funded by the Arts Council England Museum Renewal Fund to enhance the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum's offerings. The contract, awarded on 21st August 2025, involves relocating the 'Walkabout' gallery to a more accessible location, making it open to the public and featuring exhibits of national interest. The procurement, which falls under the category of recreational, cultural, and sporting services, was executed through a direct method below the competition threshold. The contract period is scheduled from 1st December 2025 to 31st January 2026, with a gross amount of £12,604.

This project presents opportunities for businesses within the cultural and event services industry, particularly those specialising in museum logistics and exhibit management. Large-scale companies like CLICK NETHERFIELD LIMITED, which has been awarded the contract, are well-suited to participate, given the nature of the services required. By engaging in such tenders, businesses can establish or strengthen relationships with public authorities, leading to potential long-term collaborations and strategic growth. The project's focus on enhancing accessibility and engaging public interest aligns with broader opportunities for businesses aiming to contribute to cultural and heritage initiatives.

## Notice

Through funding due to be received in September 2025, from Arts Council England Museum Renewal Fund we have received funding to develop the business/offer at Captain Cook Birthplace Museum. The funding was made available to museums that has seen a significant reduction in funding/income over the previous 12 months and is considered at risk. Terms of the funding require work and spend to be complete by the end of January 2026 giving us a short period of time to complete several projects that the funding will cover. As part of this funding, we have received funds to move the 'Walkabout' gallery currently located off the learning space that is not accessible to the public to the 'Temporary Exhibition Space' which is located at the end of the main museum galleries. This move will make the exhibition accessible to the public and give many the opportunity to see the high quality exhibition that features a significant national interest collection of Aboriginal art, artefacts and Australian natural history.
