## Summary

The NHS Blood and Transplant organisation is undertaking the procurement of "Assessment and Recovery Centres (ARCs) - Pilot Locations" to advance surgical specialist services across the United Kingdom, particularly targeting regions such as UKK11. The procurement process is focused on services involving ex situ machine perfusion techniques for assessing marginal organs for transplantation. The intention is for ARCs to reduce the risks related to transplantation while enhancing understanding of organ viability. Initially planned and followed by a tender process, this initiative has progressed to the confirmation of contract awards as of 26th November 2025, under the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023. The contract is valid until 31st March 2027, with an option to extend through to 30th November 2027. The overall contract value stands at £1,560,000.

This procurement presents substantial opportunities for NHS Transplant Centres that are suitably experienced and meet the outlined mandatory requirements to participate during the pilot phase of this project. Businesses that are proficient in advanced organ perfusion techniques and have the infrastructure to support cutting-edge medical procedures will be well-suited for this tender. The central involvement of NHS Trusts ensures collaboration with reputable entities, providing a platform for growth through exposure and contribution to a national healthcare network. Such initiatives drive innovation and potentially establish future-ready health facilities that align with the goals of integrated and sustainable healthcare systems.

## Notice

An ARC is an Assessment and Recovery Centre facility that will bring together and implement ex situ machine perfusion techniques at the centre of a national network. Marginal organs will be retrieved and assessed for transplantation, extending their viability between donation and transplantation. In the future, organ function could be transformed and organs repaired.

An ARC is proposed as a dedicated facility for organ perfusion techniques, utilising ex situ Machine Perfusion to undertake expert assessment, to de-risk transplantation and to better understand organ viability.

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) are looking to establish contracts with suitably experienced NHS Transplant Centres who meet the mandatory requirements to become an ARC location during this pilot phase. Further locations may be added during the pilot phase.
