## Summary

Thames Water Utilities Limited, based in Reading, has concluded the procurement process for enhancing its sewer network mapping across Greater London and the Thames Valley. The contract titled 'Sewer Mapping' aims to address blockages, floods, and pollution by mapping unmapped sewer networks to support the Pollution Incident Reduction Plan (PIRP) during AMP8. The competitive flexible procedure has seen awards to suppliers including 1Spatial and APEM Limited, focusing on various aspects, such as aerial mapping, asset detection, and sewer inferencing. The procurement phase transitioned from 'tender' to 'award', with the contract scheduled to commence on 19 March 2026, lasting until 28 February 2030, with potential extensions up to 2032.

This contract presents substantial opportunities for businesses specialising in sewer mapping, asset detection, and georeferenced imagery, offering a structured framework agreement with provisions for further purchases. SMEs with technical experience in these areas, particularly those capable of delivering high accuracy in detection and mapping, may find significant growth potential by engaging in this contract. Companies that successfully demonstrate innovation, sustainability, and efficient risk management within the competitive procedure could secure a vital role in supporting a large-scale infrastructure project designed to benefit local communities and the environment. The procurement strategy ensures resilience by spreading risk among successful bidders appointed for specific lots, promoting a collaborative approach to addressing environmental challenges.

## Notice

Thames Water is seeking to develop the mapped sewer network throughout Greater London and the Thames Valley area, in order to reduce blockages, internal and external floods and pollution. Unmapped sewers lead to a delay in Thames Water locating and attending blockages, floods and pollution, affecting local communities and the environment. The objective of FA2241 is to map any unmapped sewer networks at scale, speed and accuracy, directly supporting the Pollution Incident Reduction Plan (PIRP) that Thames Water is working towards during AMP8. Lot 1 - Aerial Mapping: Capture of 2,484 km2 across 71 Sewer Drainage Area Catchments (SDACs) using manned aircraft, delivering georeferenced 2D, oblique 2D, and 3D imagery. Lot 2 - Asset Detection: Detection of manholes, gullies, rainwater downpipes, soil stacks, misconnections, and outfalls with confidence grading. Lot 3 - Sewer Inferencing: Semi-/automated inferencing of unmapped sewers, laterals, drains, rising mains, and selected SPSs, achieving ?80% accuracy.
