## Summary

The NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership-Procurement Services, hosted by Velindre University NHS Trust, has completed a procurement process titled "Maintenance of Patient Hoists" in the services industry category. This process involved the maintenance and repair of patient hoists within the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board estate, focusing on enhancing patient safety and operational efficiency. The procurement stage was an award without prior publication, primarily required for technical reasons, to the original manufacturer, ArjoHuntleigh. The procedure was facilitated under the limited procurement method, and the contract was directly awarded via the NHS Supply Chain framework. The process was completed with the contract signed on 8th September 2025 and a total value of £481,614.73.

This tender opportunity underscores significant business growth prospects, particularly for companies specialising in medical equipment maintenance and repair. Although awarded directly, it highlights potential areas where businesses with technical expertise in specific medical devices, like patient hoists, can align with health boards. Large-scale operators capable of providing specialised repair services and ensuring compliance with medical equipment regulations are well-suited to benefit from similar procurement activities, especially when aligned with technical expertise and existing frameworks. Such placements can provide substantial revenue and strengthen partnerships with public health institutions.

## Notice

This contract will provide maintenance and repair of all patient hoists across the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board estate. Patient hoists are a vital piece of equipment for all sites as they allow clinical staff to lift and transfer patients with limited mobility. This improves patient safety and helps to increase the efficiency in which tasks can be performed.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

This contract is for the maintenance and repair of all patient hoists across the Cardiff and Vale Health Board estate. Patient hoists are a vital piece of equipment for all sites as they allow clinical staff to lift and transfer patients with limited mobility. This improves patient safety and helps to increase the efficiency in which tasks can be performed. Upon review it was found only the original manufacturer of the hoists could compliantly undertake the maintenance and therefore this contract has been directly awarded, via the NHS Supply Chain framework Maintenance, Repair and Calibration of Medical Equipment (2021/S000-021535)

### Procurement Information

There was no prior call for competition as this contract could only be awarded to the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). If this contract was awarded to a different supplier then, the safety of the devices may be compromised, the warranty on all equipment would become void and the Health Board may no longer be complying with all necessary regulations.
