## Summary

The procurement process initiated by the NHS North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board centres around the delivery of non-complex post-operative cataract services. Under the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023, this contract has been directly awarded to Primary Eyecare Services Ltd, avoiding the provisions of the Procurement Act 2023. The contract, valued at £9,635.50, is set to commence on 1st September 2025 and conclude on 31st March 2026. Located in Sunderland, this service aims to alleviate the pressure on hospital eye services within the health services industry category. The most recent update, on 29th September 2025, conveyed that the contract award notice had been confirmed and the service was proceeding according to plan.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for businesses within the health services sector, particularly those with experience in community-based healthcare provision. Such businesses can explore opportunities to collaborate or subcontract potential aspects of the service. The focus on post-operative eyecare creates a niche market for providers specialising in ophthalmology and patient care management. Given its structured under a Direct Award process, businesses with established partnerships or experience with the NHS could be well-suited to either compete for similar future contracts or develop strategic alliances with the awarded contractor to enhance their service portfolio and market reach.
