## Summary

The NHS Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care Board, in collaboration with ten other Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) across the Midlands, is conducting a second Market Assessment for the provision of Primary Care Clinical Waste collection and disposal services. These services include the collection, transport, storage, treatment, and incineration of clinical waste, as well as the provision of containers and decontamination services. The procurement is currently in the planning stage, with an anticipated formal tender expected in October 2025. The engagement phase, scheduled to conclude by 29 September 2025, invites organisations to respond to a market assessment questionnaire through the Atamis portal. This procurement, valued at approximately £33.46 million, covers services predominantly for GP Practices and Community Pharmacies within the East and West Midlands, with an expected contract period from 2026 to 2032 and potential extensions until 2036.

This tender offers significant opportunities for businesses experienced in clinical waste management services. Companies focusing on sustainable, environmentally effective, and cost-efficient waste solutions are particularly well-suited to participate. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are encouraged to engage with this market assessment to help shape the procurement framework and potentially secure a role in the long-term delivery of these essential services. By responding to the questionnaire, interested organisations can provide valuable industry insights, ultimately influencing the procurement strategy to ensure a high-quality, compliant service. This engagement process allows businesses to highlight innovative waste management technologies and practices that can enhance efficiency and environmental outcomes.
